2016 Golf Course Lineup
Everyone knows that Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is the Golf Capital of the World. With over 100 layouts along the Grand Strand, the area boasts a
collection of layouts that is unrivaled anywhere. But it isn't just the quantity of the tracks that makes Myrtle Beach a golfer's paradise; it is the quality. And the Myrtle Beach World Amateur is once again utilizing the best there is to offer as host courses for the 33rd edition of the event.
The course lineup for the 2016 tournament is set, and it reads like a who’s who of Myrtle Beach golf. Over 50 golf courses will be hosting the event, and 40 of them have earned at least 4 stars in Golf Digest’s prestigious “Best Places to Play” guide. For reference, 4 stars means “plan your next vacation” around the course.
Even more impressive, 10 of them have been ranked among America’s top 100 public courses by either Golf Magazine and Golf Digest in recent years. The top 100 courses hosting the event are:
Barefoot Fazio, Caledonia, Grande Dunes, Heritage, MBN King's North, Rivers Edge, Tidewater, Tiger’s Eye, TPC Myrtle Beach and True Blue.
“The quality of golf we are able to offer participants is probably the number one reason a player decides to compete in the World Am,” said Jeff Monday, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director. “The 19th Hole, gift bag and great camaraderie add so much value to the event, but the amazing golf is the backbone of the tournament and the real reason they all come back year after year.”
The 33rd annual World Am will be played August 29 through September 2, and the early entry registration fee of $525 runs through May 19.
A 72-hole, net stroke play event, the World Am is expected to attract more than 3,000 players from all 50 states and more than 30 countries. Golf’s most respected and rigorously enforced handicap system levels the playing field, giving all players a chance to win. Players are flighted based on gender, age and handicap. After four rounds of competition, all flight winners and ties will advance to the World Championship Playoff.
The fun of the World Am doesn’t end with the final putt. Each night participants and a guest gather at the World’s Largest 19th Hole, which encompasses 120,000 square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, for free food and drinks, live entertainment and an expansive golf expo.
