Walter–it appears the GHIN app is the exact same representation that is publicly available on the GolfLogix app, and the green maps are the same price same price ($40/yr), so others can access the data there. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if GolfLogix licensed it to the USGA. As far as having to pay for it, IMO it’s analogous to one who buys a range finder vs someone who chooses not to, or someone who buys the $500 driver vs one who plays with 5 year old clubs. Paying the extra cost for new technology doesn’t guarantee lower scores 😉
