I played in the 1st World Amateur Championship in 1984. I would love to meet some of the guys that were there too.

I was reminded of it when I drew MB National South. I played it the first year with Gator Hole and Possium Trot, as I remember. I don’t remember if we had 3 or 4 rounds then.

I don’t suppose WA still has any of the data from back then.

I was not there until 1999 but the old Dupont BBS is still archived out on the net & you might find some of the details here…

I meant to type that you could “reminisce” on that link, verify if there were 3 or 4 rounds, etc…

Good Lord, does that site brings back some memories. 1988 was my first year and it was a 4 day tournament. But, let Google be your friend.
Here is a link World Am History

Jay thanks. Didn’t find much but it was worth the effort. 1984 was before bulletin boards and newsgroups and Internet except at UCLA and Al Gore’s house, according to Al.

I quiz my fellow “old farts” and see if any of them were there too.

Play well and leave the Ice Cream at the 19th hole for me.

No, I haven’t. Didn’t come back until 2012. Live in California, kids, etc.. Just not in the cards.

Looking at this I can only guess that there are not many golf courses in the Dakotas. It’s also sad to see the number of participants decline.

John, I think the springing up of similar type events (albeit the others are 3 days and not 4) has had a lot to do with the decline over the years. Then throw in the economy and the overall decline in golf itself…sad but just is what it is.

Rick, I also started in 1988 and still have my original Dupont bag tag. I don’t think I missed a year until 2004. I still get just as excited today anticipating the trip as I did the first year and all the times in between. See everyone Sunday evening at House of Blues.
