As of this morning, Black Bear Golf Course (aka Myrtle West) has closed. New owners took over 2 years ago but made only minor attempts to market the course to area players.
I played there 3 times in the World Am and always enjoyed it. It has still not dried out from October’s rains.

It is a shame, I remember when Robbers Roost closed many years ago. I shed a tear, always liked that course.

Black Bear out on Highway 9 has closed? I knew they put in new greens just like a year or two ago at the worst, it was always a decent course! Just tough to get people to drive out that far from Myrtle Beach.

Always enjoyed playing Black Bear. Had one of my best rounds ever in the WA as a 9.4 index (75) only to have a 9.5 index guy shoot a gross 69 same day.

Someone will buy that track and it’ll be back in shape in no time, they just put in new Bermuda greens last summer, so the greens should be in great shape and the course was always in decent shape, I think the biggest fall back was its location, so much has shifted away from out on Hwy 9, people don’t want to drive all the way out to Diamond Back, Black Bear, Crown Park and the others out that way, only 2 courses out that way that get any real play are Long Bay and Aberdeen and Aberdeen has had some issues with the courses in recent years, with flooding and other issues! If only I could win the lottery id buy Black Bear!
