Good morning world am players. My buddy and I are coming up from California. My buddy never calls me but has called me at least 3 times a day for the past week. Haha. We are both jacked and hope to have allot of fun. I believe we got some good courses to play. Blackmoor, Riverhills GCC, Legends Heathland and Pawleys Plantation. Bringing extra pair of shoes and rain gear. Any mosquitoes to worry about? We play at sea level and MBeach is sea level so I don’t anticipate any club distance changes. Thanks

You got some great courses, you will love Pawleys, Legands, Blackmoor. The two par 3 at Pawleys that are out on the water are great. Not sure what flight you are in but you need to be patience when playing and don’t expect to be done in 4 hr. Enjoy the day of golf and you can enjoy the 19th hole that night. Make sure you attend the Sunday night party at Broadway on the Beach. When are you coming in.

    Hello Cruz!

My name is Dave, and I was formally from Fresno, CA. This will be my 10th WA tournament. It has always been a great experience for me. That is why I keep coming back. I recently retired, and moved to Tennessee. Now I can drive down to Myrtle Beach, instead of flying across country. Here are some things that I have learned from playing at the WA.
    1. Be patient. You will have long rounds.
    2. It is usually very warm and humid, drinks lots of water.
    3. Bring rain gear and rain gloves. (never used those in California!)
    4. Being at sea level, with the humidity, the ball will not travel as far. For me I usually hit about 1/2-1 club more.
    5. Don’t expect to play great every day. Just avoid the big numbers. Took me 5 years to finish in the top ten. I have finish, 2nd,3rd,and last year finished 4th in my flight.
    6. Most of all have fun and enjoy the people that you play with.

You did draw some nice courses. The only I have not played is Pawleys Plantation.
I thought River Hills was very tough. Out of bounds and water on every hole!!

Cruz, looks like your in my flight. Just get ready for the humidity. It gets really sticky at the beach.

Cruz, you have gotten some good advice in the posts above. This will be my 29th consecutive year. I spent a couple of years in Southern California and I can tell you the grass you are going to be playing on is different than anything I played on in California. Typical Myrtle Beach bermuda fairways and rough and if it is deep, it is tough to get out of. Summertime in MB, they don’t normally have the greens running very fast so make sure you practice your putting at every course before you play. Get a feel for them. Most all are some strain of bermuda and grain becomes a factor.
Most important thing…have fun. Even if you play bad…you are coming to have a good time. Let yourself enjoy the experience.
Hope to see you at the escalator at the convention center Monday night around 7pm so we can put a face to a name.

Thanks everyone. Feelin the Southern hospitality. Sounds like trouble for me. Long rounds and slow greens. I dont care. This is bucket list stuff. I have been wanting to come to this event since it was Dupont. I know we are getting some meals at the 19th hole but what is a MUST EAT AT SPOT? We will be playing Caledonia in a 2 man skins event Sunday. I will be in the bright USA Olympic Medal Stand Nike shoes at the KICK OFF PARTY. Hope to make it to the escalator to say hi. thanks again.

Wow Cruz I like the sound of your wardrobe, very colorful. I might just wear something colorful my self this year, just to be different

Hi, Cruz. Don’t worry too much about the slow rounds. It’s kind of inevitable, with four players adhering to the rules, holing all putts, no max score, hitting provisionals when applicable, etc. True – it might end up being 5-6 hours, but it won’t seem that long because you shouldn’t be waiting too much on the group in front of you, unless pacing is a problem.
As for food, with so many choices here, I’m not sure MB HAS a “must eat” spot. Since you are playing Caledonia Sunday, might I suggest that you stop by the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk. There are several good restaurants and a fun atmosphere there. Dead Dog Saloon is as good as any, friendly and reasonably priced.

Cruz welcome to the World Am hope to meet you at the Convention Center. You did get some great courses your first year. This will be my 13th consecutive year and I have only play with 2 players that I would not want to play with again. Most of the people you will meet here are really nice people and EVERY ONE of them will buy you a drink at the CC 19th hole good luck and have fun⛳️⛳️⛳️

Billy Handbrake, Hope I am not one of those two. But I’m sure Im pretty close to the top of your “Avoid any cost list”

Thanks for the info guys. Murrells Inlet Marshwalk looks sweet. Drunken Jacks and Crab Shak are on the list to hit. Looks like some wet weather is coming in from the storm by Florida. Sorry to see the midwest and South getting some extreme weather. Hope we all make it safe to and from. 1 more day of work and were off. Rain or Shine Myrtle Beach will be mine!!
