For anyone who drew this course in the tourney some items for you:

Played a practice round here today:
    1) Course itself was in decent condition. Fairways, roughs, and bunkers maintained. Lots of divots though – some filled in well, many not – so be prepared for that scenario. Apparently golfers have a hard time understanding what those sand bottles on the carts are for.
    2) Carts on fairways with requested 90° if possible. Assuming no lengthy downpours we should be carts everywhere next week. NOTE: having said that, #3 item KNOWS when you venture into forbidden areas. You will be forced to endure a SLOW reverse gear of shame experience.
    3) Carts have good GPS on them although trying to get the “play to” marker moved took some patience. You will also need to click past many ads.
4a) Travel Advisory #1: Hwy 501 will be brutal in the morning so plan accordingly. Also it is a winding neighborhood road back into the course so don’t plan on the Grand Prix of Myrtle Beach driving condition.
4b) The course is building a new (and badly needed) 2 story Pro Shop – I guess the Alumni came through! – and looks like it should be very nice. Lots of construction taking place meaning a lot of construction workers parking there. Along with the students who try using the golf course parking area this means only one thing…parking spots may not equal the daily need by World Am’ers, sooo….good luck boys and girls!
    5) Carts have ball/club washers on them, a pull down rain canopy for clubs, and a small cooler (no alcohol) for beverages and ice.

All I can think of for now. If you want course strategies you will have to find out for yourselves. Scoring (especially putting) the way I did makes me ill-qualified to be handing any of that out.

Did think of 2 more things…old age I guess. On the course itself the construction areas are easy to navigate aound. Rest of course is easy to follow the flow. The normal practice green is being rebuilt. I was told they are hoping to have it ready for us by next week. In the meantime there is a temporary one available near the #1 and #10 teeing grounds.

Thanks for the info. One question. Are anybody the holes different while they do the construction? I had heard something about one bole being different whwn they started building the new clubhouse. Was that false information?
Thanks again for the heads up.

Thanks for the great summary, I’ll be there for Thursday’s round. Played once before and enjoyed it.

    John,

When using #10 teeing gound there MAY have been a slight adjustment for the back tees but I can’t be certain. I was playing the Bronze tees so no changes there. Parking for the #10 tee is noticeable as golfers will park next to or partially on the temporary cart path and walk over to the tees. Nothing different than what we see on many other area courses. Only aspect maybe that will affect any golfers using #10 who are easily distracted if they can’t mentally block out the periodic loud construction noise.

I personally didn’t notice it. Back home I’m a dew scraper so I share the fairways and greens with my club’s grounds crews. They know me so well that I’ve had tractor mowers literally 5′ away during my swing. We smile, wave, and move on.
