There is a USGA rules app you can download to your phone. It is updated and searchable. Just type in what you are looking for and it will show you the rules. Much easier than carrying the hard copy.

    @BruceFriend.
#1 your friends seem like they are fun to play with. :/
#2 I asked the Pro day 1 my 1st year about ear buds and he said it was fine. If people don’t want music I will wear them.

@BobHamlin If you are not sure of a rule just ask usually someone in your group is more knowledgeable and I would tell you to ask “What are my Options”.
If you are unsure if a ball stayed in play hit a Provisional after announcing it as such. It sucks to have to trek all the way back to the tee box after you searched.

Make sure you stay Hydrated, The days are long and it’s hot and humid.

You are switching cards to keep people honest. If you don’t agree with a score DO NOT SIGN THE CARD go see the pro.

Can’t wear earbuds in tournament play. Ever wonder why you don’t see pros wear them?

Rule 4.3a(4) outlines the precise restrictions regarding audio equipment during a competitive round:What is ALLOWED: You may listen to background audio, such as music, podcasts, or a sports broadcast, strictly for entertainment. However, it must not disturb other players in your group. What is NOT ALLOWED: You cannot use earbuds, headphones, or earplugs to consciously eliminate noise or block distractions. You are also forbidden from listening to any music that helps you establish a consistent rhythm or swing tempo

Another thing nobody has touched on is make sure you bring good rain gear and rain gloves. It will rain and unless there is lightning in the area play will continue. I remember once it was raining hard enough that there were puddles forming on some of the greens making putting quite the challenge. Some of the courses have covers for the clubs attached to the carts but some do not so make sure you bring a cover for your clubs and a towel or two!

Bob, You say 2 different things, “You may listen to background audio, such as music, podcasts, or a sports broadcast, strictly for entertainment.”

Which is it? I asked the Pro and he said it was fine.

The rule means you could play a radio or other music source in the cart or walking, just cannot use ear buds or headphones.

    I didn’t say, lol.
    Thanks for the advice.
I’ve played the Myrtle Beach area several times, just not in a tournament.
Was hoping that at least one of the four courses would be one I’ve played in the past, oh well, no biggie.
I have Colonial Charters on day one, I’ve heard horror stories about it. I guess I’ll find out.
I was really hoping for Caledonia, True Blue & Tidewater. Hahahaha, oh well.
I have rain gear but not a rain cover for the bag, guess I’ll go shopping.

On course assignments, the committee (which they have had turnover so this may not still be true) stated a few years ago they have what they considered A, B, and C courses. Personally, I find their rankings to be similar to how I rank them so I didn’t have a problem with how they view them even though they would never make their rankings public. They also map out the Grand Strand as North, South, Central and Hwy 501. So when they do course assignments, they try and not give the same courses to the same flights year after year which is their first criteria. They don’t always achieve this. Then they try to give one North, one South, one Central and one Hwy 501 to each flight and one “high” A and one C. They typically achieve the high A and C. Then the other two courses they fill in the geographic locations still available for the flight with the highest ranked courses they have available to assign to the flights. Sometimes a flight may get two North courses or two courses Central. However, what they consider “central” doesn’t necessarily feel too central in my opinion. But the hard part is the contractual commitment as many courses only sign up for one or two days to host. So it isn’t an easy task in the least.

The one thing I will say from my observations, the Gross and low handicap flights tend to get the “weakest” rotations. I don’t know why but that is my observation and others may disagree with how I view the courses.

I would imagine it’s a royal pain in the ass to plan this. Also assuming they have some sort of algorithm to most of the heavy lifting.
    I’m really forward to it.

    FYI
I do not remember any of the courses not having rain covers on the back of the carts

But if it bothers someone in the group, they need to turn it off
