Consideration for fee reduction will assist this event to reclaim its uniqueness.

At 2700 entries at this point the increase in fee has turned many away.

This is good for the 2700 cause the crowds will diminish.

Also, got to find a way to attract the younger people. Most players are in the 60 to 69 year old group.

It was previously suggested to rethink the age groupings. Skills diminish with age

I’m sorry, but if you can’t afford an additional cost of $12.50 per day, then perhaps it is good for your bank account to stay home. For me it just means that I’ll have one less beer at the course and wait until I get to the 19th hole. We each have our own priorities and have to budget accordingly.

Here is a good idea to reduce to fees for each year. The WAM could have a raffle prize of a full set of golf clubs and free entry fee to the following years event for the winner.

Every one who signs up automatically gets 50 tickets in their name valued at $10 a ticket.

Those who want to get a discount can request that 50 blank tickets be sent to them and they can sell them to their friends and associates. If they sell all 50 tickets and return them they then get a $5 discount per ticket returned with the collected money for the following year. So sell all your tickets and get $250 off the following year. The WAM already had my entry fee then an additional $250 and your entry fee the following is $250 less. Request more tickets for more savings. Logistically it would be a nightmare if all 3400 requested tickets and all had money to return prior to the event but most would just settle to have their name on 50 tickets to avoid the hassle. Those who are desparate for a discount can sell the raffle tickets. I know it not a perfect system but something along these lines could be possible

I agree with John. I come to participate in a tournament that is as close as I can get to a real PGA tournament. If $525 and now $575 is too much to pay to play, (I do not think so) then I would find some other tournament to play in. Everyone has different budget issues and you have to do what is best for you. Good luck to all that will be in Myrtle Beach this year!!

First off, let me say that I am not complaining about the $575. And, I also agree that the cost of entry fee increase, while more than I had expected, is still ok for what we get, considering it had not gone up in several years.
Unfortunately every other &%$# thing increased this year. The hotel where we normally stay went up significantly this year. Airfares…geez, where do I start about that. Since American bought out USAir, flights into MB have risen in cost significantly. Flying Delta…well that just sucks. One piece of revenue that Myrtle Beach will not get this year is from Jeff and I flying into MB and renting 2 cars in MB. We are flying into Charleston. Saves us a bunch of money.
So, not sure who all drives to get to MB but we do not. But, in our group off usually between 6 and 8, everyone of us flys in, everyone of us rents a car, everyone of us gets our own hotel room.
Maybe many who are not signing up possibly do the same thing and so the increase in cost of entry fee with the increase in cost of everything else…well maybe they decided not to do it.
So, before I pass judgement on people not entering, I would like to know if it is just the entry fee increase or all the other increases tacked on that have them not signing up.
Oh…and before I step off my soapbox, flying into MB has gotten worse and worse and worse over the years. I just don’t want to waste between 16 and 20 hours sitting in a vehicle when I could be playing golf part of that time, so I don’t drive it any more. I did way back when but no more. Now I will get down off my soapbox. 🙂

    Rick,

Why do all of you get a hotel room? We get a 4 bedroom 3 bath penthouse condo for $1400.00 for the week. There are plenty more that aren’t luxurious like ours a lot cheaper. Go on VRBO get together and save money.

We like our privacy, I guess. And, for the younger guys…who knows, they may get lucky. 🙂
As some people say…it is what we do.
FWIW, I have shared a condo before here in MB. Someone always gets screwed on the bedroom. Someone gets a king size master, someone else gets a closet with a bed, someone gets a room with 2 twins.
Easier to take all the drama out and just get your own room (and car).
And, we have remained friends which is a plus.
