Anyone know if River Hills is open this summer. There is some talk that they are doing extensive renovations.

Blackmoor was in excellent condition!
Ernie I had not heard of River Hills doing any major renovations, Crow Creek is shut down however as they tear out the old bent grass greens and replace them with new bent grass greens for whatever sense that makes, Bent Grass is a thing of the past in the south, it just doesn’t hold up to the weather!

I also find it interesting that TPC Sawgrass had to replace ertheir Mini Verde (or whatever) in just 5 years. Makes me wonder just how good the new verities really are. Will be interesting to see how everything plays out over the next 5 years. Everyone has gotten so speed conscious with their greens, it may be that nothing will hold up. Congressional greens did not look that great this past weekend.

Quicken Loans National was played at TPC at Avenal Farms down the street. From the D.C. Area and bent grass greens hold up well considering. I agree down south they can’t survive.
July 4, 2017 at 7:21 pm #38719Bob NewmanParticipantThanks for setting me straight about the tournament. I watched it some and thought I heard the name Congressional mentioned. Is not the first time I have been wrong and probably will not be the last. LOL I did notice that the greens at that event looked stressed or not a consistent green and yes I do realize that bent (I belong to a course that has bent in N. Augusta, SC) can still putt and roll true when it has that look to it. Our course does leave the greens a little longer in late June to mid August to help but this year they are in trouble. Two weeks ago I was in Hoover, Ala on the RTJ Trail and they were having trouble with one courses Bent greens, One course was excellent (bent) and the par 3 was some type Bermuda and it was also excellent (and a touch faster than the bent)

Years ago I played in a pro Am w/ Jason Gore at Avenal on the Web.com tour when they hosted it and the greens Wednesday by far better then they looked Sunday. Avenal will never be Congressional but it’s challenging in its own right and I don’t think the pros enjoy getting it handed to them. Redesign is great and the back nine is no joke. The tournament loses its Title Sponsor after this year so it’s in Jeopardy espically with no TW!
