I’d like to know if we’ll have electronic scoring (as a few years ago). What I mean is, designate one player in your group to enter the scores of each player for each hole on their phone. I know this is an expensive thing to have but it kept you informed on where you stood in your flight. I’m sure each course will have the paper standings each day (we hope) but I enjoyed the electronic scoring when it was available.

    Thank you.

Other than in the Finals…when was it done within the flights for the first 4 days?
    Curious minds want to know…..

We downloaded an app to our phone. It was something that was done by the World Amateur. I remember doing it a few years ago and as we finished the whole I entered the scores onto my phone from the app and it kept track of all scores.

I don’t remember us keeping score at the World Am electronically.

In Florida we use Golf Genius to keep score electronically, it is simple and easy to use.

Tommy, I am with you. I don’t EVER remember electronic scoring by an app on our phone in the World Am. My club uses Golf Genius for most of our events. What a battery drain it can be on my phone!!! But other than in the finals, I never, ever, remember any electronic scoring within flights.

Yes gentlemen you are correct. It wasn’t the World Amateur. I had it mixed up with the Golf Week Amateur Tour. I’m sorry for my mistake.

No problem Terry. At my age, I have a hard time remembering yesterday.

To Terry’s defense, I believe he is referring to last year or year before the App had a thing where you could put in your scores if you wanted to as you played, very few people took advantage of it, or least in my flight, and some made a mockery of it by entering false scores to see if people watched to have them worried someone was playing well or whatever, using real time scoring wouldn’t be so bad in a scratch division, but with the age of people sandbagging it allows someone to ease up if they realize they are to far ahead

I am not a sand bagger but I did graduate from the luttrall University with a diploma in lephanomics

Terry you’re correct. I can’t remember if it was 2 or 3 years ago but we had a live scoring feature on the app which not many people used. Since it’s only of value if the majority of people were using it so we discontinued it. We have looked at bringing it back again but TBD on when.

We use Golf Genius (sometimes referred to as Not So Genius) at my club for MGA and SMGA events. I am an Android person and if I am 100% charged when I open Golf Genius I can make it all the way to 18 tee box before my phone is dead. I have to carry a battery pack in my cart (not a new cart with plug in) to keep my phone up if I use Golf Genius. It is by far the most battery draining app I have on my phone. So, I am not a big fan of scoring apps.

Rick, maybe it’s time for an upgrade or try putting the phone on battery saving mode when ya use it! I have an Android and we use Golf Genius here too, but I can use the app and play music to a Bluetooth speaker and my battery won’t die assuming I stay off Facebook! The battery saver option is king for using an app for 4 hours!
