To Scott.
To help me make my decision on attending, my question is: Does “appropriate social distancing” and “industry best practices for providing a safe golfing environment” mean all of the courses will be one person per cart? Two per cart is hardly social distancing, riding with someone you may/probably have never met. I know things may change by late August but right now, in Texas we are only allowed one person per cart, which is the right thing to do. Please advise.May 13, 2020 at 11:11 am #47322Ed GuertinParticipantBrian, very interesting question. I believe that they are back to 2 folks in a cart right now though I maybe wrong? But, with 2 flights per course I don’t know if the courses would have enough carts? It is one person a cart here right now and the last course I played, I walked but they did run out of carts for the number of people who wanted to play. Oh, the whiners came out in full force over that, a tee time and no cart available!
May 13, 2020 at 11:48 am #47323Tommy BriggsBlockedWhat will be the standard in August, who knows. I am quite sure Scott cannot predict the future. Of course maybe we could consult Madam Marie. I could care less what the rules are today I am far more concerned what they will be in three months. In SC and FL we are back to two people per cart.
If you have a medical condition and consider yourself to be unusually susceptible to the virus, I would encourage you to stay home, you will not be able to avoid social contact once you leave your home.

If that is the case then a suggestion to the organizers would be to keep the same amount of flights but reduce the numbers from 50 per to 36 per. This would allow only 70+ players on the course and the ability to use the single cart rule sending groups out in 3’s.
This would help solve the social distancing problem as well as make the rounds a little shorter to complete
Thoughts ??????
May 13, 2020 at 4:50 pm #47326James CarterParticipantThat’s a great idea Harry. Thanks for posing the question, Brian. Still trying to decide what I’m going to do. In my part of NC, we are still single person to a cart, unless you ride to the course together.
May 13, 2020 at 6:02 pm #47327Raymond AbernathyParticipantKeep the flights the way they are. If there are fewer players, then there are spare golf carts that can be moved from course to course.
Leave it to the courses to get the number of carts needed depending on single or double riders.May 13, 2020 at 6:06 pm #47328Tommy BriggsBlockedHarry the issues I see with your suggestion are these.
The courses who participate in the World Am still get a fee, even if it is a reduced fee they still receive a fee. What you are proposing is, in addition to accepting a reduced fee now we are asking you to accept less volume.
In my flight I had 40, with two flights per course, and at a reduced fee of $30.00 that is $2,400 in revenue. Lets use a reduction number of 75%, so now we have 30 + 30 at $30.00 is $1,800 in revenue. So the courses might not be as accommodating. 60 players is only 15 foursomes, we tie up a course for 7 – 8 hours, so at what point are the course saying we are better off with daily play.
In addition, the prizes per flight total $1,200 plus the cost of the trophies plus the cost of the Friday finals at the Dye Course, and daily prizes, drawings etc. So now you have to ask everyone to take an additional hit by either reducing the prize pool, (which would cause me to drop out) or ask for more money per player. (If you read the other posts, people are bitching about $435.
I realize the virus is an tragic issue but I am not going to live my life in panic and fear. I understand why some people might choose to drastically change the way they live their lives and I respect their right to. Maybe Scott should have a virus flight, one rider per cart, only two players per hole, tee times and a two shot penalty if you are caught without your mask on. Millions of people die every year in the US because of the health issue but how many take steps to improve their health? Just my two cents worth.

May 13, 2020 at 7:44 pm #47332Bob NewmanParticipantSouth Carolina is already back to 2 per cart. Should not be a problem in August if it is not a issue now. We are worrying about way too much as this point in time in my opinion. I honestly think we are past the crisis.
May 13, 2020 at 7:47 pm #47333Rick KimbrellParticipantRaymond, the carts belong to, or are leased by, the individual course. There is no way they are going to move carts from one course to another. That is simply unrealistic.
May 13, 2020 at 8:25 pm #47336Raymond AbernathyParticipantRick,
Courses do it all the time when they have large events. Especially if it is a golf group that owns multiple courses.Solutions instead of excuses..
May 13, 2020 at 9:55 pm #47337benny shepardParticipantWhat about flag sticks, all in or out. Everyone is acting as if the World Am is the last day on earth
May 13, 2020 at 10:05 pm #47338benny shepardParticipantSuck it up. Pay & Play or stay home. As Fred Sanford said, I would hate to know I died and nothing was wrong with me
May 15, 2020 at 12:23 pm #47349Ed GuertinParticipantI know things will change between now and the tourney and with the courses in S.C. allowing 2 players in a cart, that is good.
Me, I always catch 2 courses in N.C. on my draw. Hope they allow 2 players when the time comes, I enjoy riding with others, part of the comradery.May 15, 2020 at 1:05 pm #47351Rick KimbrellParticipantRaymond, maybe where you live they do. The part of the world I am in…does not happen. Solutions that make sense…not excuses.
