Received email today (Monday May 11) describing the rules for the tournament. With social distancing in place, I’d like to know if walking would be permitted? I have my own push cart and I wouldn’t mind walking. I know some course have long walks between green to tee. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you.May 12, 2020 at 10:17 am #47293Charles MinesParticipantI’d like to know that as well. I’d prefer to walk anyway (even if it means I ride to my Shotgun starting hole, but walk from there). I sent a message to the Worldam about that… If I hear anything before you I will come back and post it here.

Currently we are creating different plans with the various scenarios we could be looking at, the issue is we don’t know what scenario will be in play come late August.
Golf courses reverted back here to 2-player carts this week, and assuming everything continues trending the same direction we would still have a shotgun start. A walking round would not be feasible with a shotgun start.
We will know more specifics as we get closer to August, but at this time we can’t say yes or no to your request.

May 13, 2020 at 11:00 am #47320Ed GuertinParticipantI love the tourney but I PRAY we don’t go to tee times!
I always start early and a 9:00 AM start is rather late for me but I’m still done early enough to enjoy the afternoon.
If I was to catch a tee time around noon, I would be beside myself!May 13, 2020 at 3:31 pm #47324Mark HancockParticipantI tried walking my first year in the tournament and you just can’t walk for 5 1/2 hours. It’s impossible.

Thank you for the update. I agree with Ed G. I DO NOT want tee times. I enjoy getting done at a reasonable time and having the rest of the day to spend with family.May 13, 2020 at 7:49 pm #47334Bob NewmanParticipantWithout the CC being open, you have nothing to rush to. Tee times would allow the courses to properly monitor pace of play and speed up the rounds.

We have a big house and we enjoy getting back to the pool, bbq ect. I hope it’s a shotgun start. I live in Florida and we are already doing that with no issues. Walking is just crazy, some courses have major distance between holes

I hope we have shot gun starts and not tee times. Since no Convention Center this year I like when everyone in the flight is at the course at the same time. 1 of the main reasons I like coming is to see past friends from previous World Ams and if you have tee times you may not get to see them. Many people like to play in the skins games also so how would that be possible for someone to organize with tee times?Another thing is at least with a 9:00 shotgun start we get somewhat of a break from the heat and humidity. I’d hate to have a later tee off time and still be at the course at 6 or 7 and have played the whole round in the hottest part of the day. And since some of the courses can be a long drive to get to, earlier tee times makes a very early wake up time and probably still dew on the golf courses.
May 14, 2020 at 10:41 am #47341Stan LegusParticipantJust 1 more comment on the shot gun starts versus the tee times. Wonder if you have bad weather in the morning and great in the afternoon or vise versa. Wouldn’t it be more fair and enjoyable round for everyone to play in the same weather conditions?
May 14, 2020 at 8:16 pm #47342Rick KimbrellParticipantHaving run skins in my flights for several years, I can tell you that tee times would flat suck. Doesn’t matter if you collect all the money the first day. If you are running the game and your tee time is close to the last one of the day, getting the scorecards for the people who finished a couple of hours before you would be a nightmare. And, no, the majority of the courses are not going to give you the official scorecard to work up skins for that day. I doubt I would volunteer to run a skins game if we are forced into tee times. Losing the convention center and then losing out of playing in skins…bummer. Makes me wonder if it really is what I want to do for my 33rd year.
May 14, 2020 at 8:57 pm #47343Mike CheesemanParticipantNo walking and definitely no tee times. Shotgun only option
