I have heard in the past several arguments about who drives the cart, if your name is on top does that mean you’re the driver, or is it whoever gets to the cart first.

In 34 years, I have never heard anyone argue about who was going to drive. As for me, I always put my clubs on passenger side even if I get there first. I have my own cart at home so I drive all the time here. Don’t really care in MB.

Never heard a “rule” for driving the cart! Never personally heard of an argument about the pilots’ seat.
1st one there gets the option, is usually how it goes. I’ve seen plenty of folks that don’t want to drive.
If this is really an issue, I’ve never heard of something that adults can’t work out. My only complaint is having to ride with an inconsiderate cigar smoker.

I usually put my bag on to drive but will always offer to let the other person drive. However some courses follow the rule of first person listed and place bags in that order. Personally I don’t care, I just want a cart partner that doesn’t play and act a a pga prima donna

Yeah I would say if you’re one of those guys that absolutely has to have it one way or the other, make sure you get there first

I’m sorry to say it is a real thing. I’m always early to the courses and have been told a few times I didn’t put the bag on the right side. And I know and have witnessed others discussing “proper” seating arrangements in the carts before the round. I will say if the course have individuals unloading trunks and putting the bags on the carts, they will typically follow the protocol of first name is the driver and second name is the passenger.

I just try and go with the flow with anything and everything including who drives the carts, how the scorecards are exchanged, whether to remove the flag or not on the greens. Only thing I try to encourage is Ready-Play golf in order to keep the foursome moving and keeping up with the foursome ahead. But even there, some people insist on only hit when it is their turn. Stupid. You are playing the course and the field, it isn’t match play. Do your part to not waste time and slow down the foursome.

Ready golf is a must. Needless to say I’ve had a few comments over the years about playing “out of turn” even when I tell everyone on the first tee I play ready golf. I’m not going to wait to tee off if you’re still sitting in your cart going over your scorecard, taking a leak or talking to the cart girl.

I prefer to drive only because I have a bad back and some guys are too busy talking to notice the cart path is like super bumpy which can make for a painful ride. So I try to get there early enough to drive or just ask the guy to slow down on the big bumps!

I would say that 90% of the time I end up driving the cart….mostly because my cart partner for the day has already put his bag on the passenger side. I don’t mind….I actually prefer to drive. It seems to be a thing about the scorecards though. Most, in my experiences, do not want to be responsible for keeping track of the scorecards, which seems to fall on the driver.

In my experience, unless you request otherwise, the staff put the bags on the cart with the first player listed as the driver and the second player as the passenger.
