Who's played the World Am: How many years.

My first year was 2005 and have only missed 2012 for the birth of my daughter. I love the camaraderie and Myrtle Beach itself. I always tell my friends who love golf and haven’t been yet, “You need to experience this at least once”. I can’t wait to get there this year.

I’ve only missed 2 years since 1995. 1998 when I first started a new job, ( no vacation time accrued ), and 2009 when I was in college. So, 19 years out of 21 so far. Miss the guy who got me started though. Tommy Joe Wall passed away in 2007, but he loved this tourney. The stories we shared of the day and later on; the week. A lot of years.

Good point Glenn. Most of my all time best golf stories come from the World Am. I miss the day they gave away a new car in a random drawing the last night at the old Convention Center. The only catch was you had to be present to win. I played that day with a guy who said he was not going that night because he was taking his wife out to a nice dinner for being so understanding about him playing in the tournament. Well….guess who’s name was called. I wonder to this day if he ever found out.

Cal Shankle This is my 28th year in a row and my handicap at the beach keep getting higher and the separation of my index keeps getting greater. Maybe the myrtle Beach courses are harder???? One year maybe I’ll find the secret??? Hope it’s this year!

This year is no. 32 for me. I missed the first year.

This will be my FIFTH, which is a coincidence because it is also what I carry in my bag to ease the pain of not being on the green before my fifth shot, and to erase the memory of those 5-putt holes.

So with all that good Karma, I look to finish in the top five this year. Look out World Am, I am looking to get tapped on the shoulder at the convention center for shooting the lights out! (A man has to have his dreams.)
