Hey everyone, I’ve run a skins game for the past 15 years for the two flights on my courses. I’m wondering whether anyone else is having second thoughts about running a game and collecting money from people in your flights. With Covid-19 i”m wondering whether we should or could run games during the tourney and how to handle money exchanges from players?

I play about 40 FSGA tournaments a year here in Florida and some of the changes they have made are:
They have cancelled all skins games and any exchange of money.
All payouts are recorded in the pro shop, no certificates are handed out.
The tournament officials place exchanged scorecards on the carts
Scorecards are turned in directly to the scoring table with a verbal verification of the scores.

Unless Scott comes out and says no skins games, I think we should plan on still having them.
I understand some folks would be hesitant to run the game in their flights with everything going on now.
I am willing to run the Skins games in my flights. My L.I. is 7.3 Senior flight.

I usually run the skins but won’t if we are changed to tee times as I expect to happen. I just don’t see them having 100 guys all warming up and finishing at the same time. Impossible to keep social distancing.

I am with David. I have run skins for both flights on my courses for several years and will do so again this year. Handling the money does not bother me. But, if we have to go off by tee times…forget it. That would mean being there very early and staying very very late. No interest in doing that. The skins guy’s day is long enough when it is shotgun start. But tee times…that would be just too much, too long of a day.

From what I gather if we happen to go off by tee times, more than likely the tee times will be 8am-10am so it’s not really that much longer of a day, but the skins guy would definitely need to let his flight know when his tee time was or it’d be hard to get everyone there and signed up, unless you did it before the first day…as far as handling money, at my home course for any shootouts, men’s association, or anything, we have used Venmo to collect money and to pay back out, that way if there are any worries over touching money this solved it, no honestly I think we may be jumping the gun, we still have 2+ months, I’ve played golf in Myrtle Beach quite a few times this year and played with random people and don’t have the Rona yet knock on wood!

Wow i’m glad i’m not the only one concerned. i certainly hope we are not required to play under set tee times. I was planning on running a game in the 60-69 age range. My past hdcp was around 16 but having golf closed here in Mass for 10 weeks I’m now a 17.5, but who knows what it will be on 8/15.

Just my opinion and I am not a lawyer. I think the World Am will distance themselves from any exchange of cash. Whomever would run a skins game that includes handling cash could be personally liable if someone were to get sick and blamed the transmission of the virus on the exchange of cash.

Here in Florida the FSGA has us signing a waiver before every tourney and strictly prohibiting the exchange of any cash money or players doing so on their own. (The FSGA may not think they can prevent it, but by prohibiting it in writing and verbally has legally protected themselves from any potential legal action)

Sanitize the money. Here in Canada our money is plastic so it cleans up nice. Usually the skins guy has a helper, he can sanitize the cash. Just a thought.

I don’t get paid or take a cut out of the money. Sometimes people buy me a drink. Every now and then someone will tip me for doing the skins. Sanitize the money…forget it. Unless I win a skin, it is all labor and the fun of meeting people. Not taking on a new task just to make other people happy. I am not about to worry about sanitizing between $5000 and $7000. I have to handle it. If you don’t want your payout, then give it to the gal at the bar.
But, the idea that tee times would not add that much extra time…obviously you have not run skins before at the World Am.

Hmmm, I guess I exceeded number of times I can edit a post. Oh well….
But about extra time…so the statement was made tee times between 8 and 10. Ok, 8am start time. Regardless of what time I tee off, if I am running skins, I am there no later than 7AM. That is 3 hours before the last tee time at 10. If you have never experienced a 6 hour round at the WA…well it happens.
So, last tee time is 10am, plus 6 hours. Now, you are there when last group is coming in at 4pm. Oh believe me, they are going to put up their clubs, check scorecards, I might see them at 4:30pm.
So, I have been there from 7am till 4:30pm. That is 9-1/2 hours with who knows how many people walking up and asking “is my birdie still holding up”. And all of that for a “thank you”…maybe, or a beer or two. I love seeing all you guys but to end up doing a 10 hour day at the golf course…not really worth it with tee times.
