I hope I am wrong but a local who just played Wedgefield recently, said it was not worth the 60+ min ride down there. Yes, as you know Dave, I too was there in 2006 (although we didn’t know each other at that point), the course was just “so-so” back then.

If it’s your worst of the week, then just enjoy the rest. Overall, it will be fine.

Ok fellow duffers, here is the official skins post for Flights 5 & 6:

I have run the skins games in my flight several times in the past. Most of you should know me if you’re around the same hcp as in the past. I am offering to run the game this year for BOTH flights that are on my courses, if no one objects. The price/cost breakdown will be as follows:
    Monday – $20
    Tuesday $20
    Wednesday – $20
    Thursday – $40
You are welcome to pay daily or you can pay for the entire week on Monday and be done with it ($100). Cash only please!!!

Rules are same as in the past. Gross birdies or better scores only (no net). You MUST report your score THAT DAY. I will NOT accept any birdies, etc the next day or two days later (which actually happened one time). Winning skins will be paid out the day of unless you have to leave and in that case, I will gladly pay you the next morning.

Here is the MOST IMPORTANT RULE: I will NOT, repeat, NOT accept a course card to prove your score. I will only accept your WORLD AM card or a picture of it. It must also have 2 signatures. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! If you get done golfing before me and can’t wait, you can text me a pic or you can kindly wait around in the lounge until I finish my round.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at teeitup914@gmail.com or text me at 302-463-5241.

    Cheers everyone!!

    Hello all,
We are getting closer to course assignments and hopefully by this time next week, we will have that info. I wanted to throw this out there like I always do ahead of us finding out what flight we are in.

I have run the skins games in my flight several times in the past. Most of you should know me if you’re around the same hcp as in the past. This year my index will be 9.1 and in the 49 & under division. I am offering to run the game this year for BOTH flights that are on my courses, if no one objects. The price/cost breakdown will be as follows:
    Monday – $20
    Tuesday $20

Just texted my buddy who is in Jamaica to make sure he did. Of course he hadn’t…

    He’s good to go now.

I think 5-1/2 is what anyone should expect. If it’s shorter, great. If it runs to 6 then you’re not that far from what you were thinking.

As long as the weather is favorable, the beer is cold and there are no “Robert the Rule Masters”, all will be fine.

I really think shotgun is best (IMHO) for reasons that exceed tee time justification. Carpooling is a big one and everyone getting done about the same time.

Last year we had to be there 2 hours before one guy in our group teed off because another golfer in our group was first off the tee (7:45 & 9:20). And to boot, one day was at Carolina National. Sure, if you’re playing/riding alone and you tee off at 7:45, then you could potentially be done by 12-12:30. This is great for you..

I was also glad to see 8:30 instead of 8am. The 30 mins will help indeed. And in case you haven’t noticed the furthest drives to a course from central MB are about 45 mins. Not exactly close, but better than 60 mins or more. Heck, one year I had to go to Wedgefield in Georgetown. Almost 70 mins from River Oaks where I was staying.

Yeah, it’s sad to see those courses go. Especially because they were always in decent shape (the ones mentioned above). Not that I would have it this year (because I did last), but I won’t miss that Carolina National drive… nope…

Makes you wonder though. With that many “less” courses, about the same amount of people, and no new courses added, how will this affect everything?? Will the amount of people per flight have to change? Pace of play could be different for some.

I guess a short answer to that is if they get a commitment from some of the courses to add a few days to the tournament (not all courses host the event everyday). This would/could resolve some of that.

    About 21 days for me…..Cheers

I believe there is an option for him. I have heard of people not arriving until late Sunday and then getting their stuff at “Will Call” on Monday night at the CC. If they let the staff know about it, I believe he will have no issues.

Well said Scott. My thoughts are almost identical. I have been playing in this event since 2005 and I too feel the same sentiments. A week in MB is always a blast, etc but with the increase in price to where it’s at now, it’s really getting to the point of what you mentioned (not enough bang for your buck).

I love the competition, love seeing all the friends I have made over the years but I think they have driven this to the breaking point of “decision time”. Is it worth it, or do I set myself up with a different type of golf vacation for a little less?

I still give credit to the staff for their efforts, as I am sure it’s not easy to put an event of this size together. Personally, I have cherished all the memories I have made for 17 years, but after this year, it may be time to try something else (as I expect another $ increase for 2023).

I am signed up for 2022 being that I benefited from 3 newbie friends coming in 2021. So let’s see how this year goes and take it from there.

    Cheers everyone!!

    Hi Scott,
I am glad to hear that we will all be starting the same time again. My question to the staff is, will the courses that are furthest from MBCC be 9:30? Like in the past?

    Thanks,

Tee times did NOT help pace of play in Flight 6.

Shotgun start is always best for comradery. If they reduce the amount of people on the course, the slower rounds will be sped up. And yeah, pace of play monitoring by the courses will be extremely helpful.

To all who plan on getting into the skins pot for the week:

I tee off at 8:03am on Monday. Two gentlemen (I use that term loosely) lol, who are teeing off at 9:15am will be collecting for the pot after I tee off. If you get there early enough, please find me so I can mark you down.

If you arrive after my tee off time, please see either Craig Oby or Ryan DeAscanis. If you don’t make it a point to pay up and confirm your entry prior to teeing off, YOU ARE NOT IN FOR MONDAY!! NO EXCEPTIONS!! You can sign up on Tuesday for the rest of the week, but it’s YOUR responsibility to find one of us!!

Safe travels to everyone and see you at Crown Park!!

    Hi Mike,
I am offering just to ensure a game. I too have run them in the past, so I don’t mind. But any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, especially since we are teeing off separately.

    Thanks

Ken, they are doing tee times this year. I think they range from 7:45 – 10am.
So until we get those, we won’t know what time we are playing but yes, we will all be on the same courses. Flight 5 will most likely tee of on #1 and Flight 6 on hole 10 (double tee).
