Just throwing this out there, Jason, why are some of these guys putting emphasis on Eagles or #1 handicap hole and so on? The only fair way I have ever seen it has been any hole that has only two names in the box get paid out. I think we have all seen some of the higher handicap holes that have only had a couple birdies on them before. To be fair it should be all holes with only 2 on them get paid out. Shouldn’t matter if it was eagle or birdie. Just look for holes with only two.

    Jeff,
In your example for settling the last day without any clear cut winners, what if there are more birdies on a particular hole than just the 2 that are recorded?? Once you have the first two wrote down, anyone after that isn’t even considered. Then it goes back to paying ALL birdies and eagles. This would be cumbersome… There could be TONS of them…

    Jeff,

Why the concern? Isn’t it enough that guys are willing to take it upon themselves to run the skins game? As long as there is 100% payout, what difference does it make how the guy running it wants to determine a winner if it comes down to ties. At my club we run a skins game every week and this also includes a season long super skin. At this point in the season the only 2 holes left that qualify for the super skin are the #1 & #2 hdcp holes. So, I think it is fair to say that hole hdcp determination is a pretty fair way to do it. If I did it your way it would just add to the nightmare and make me work even harder trying to track down guys who’ve left already. Since I have run skins games for the last couple years at the WA, it becomes a pain if I have to record every birdie and usually tell guys they are out after I get 3 birdies on the same hole and I stop recording them.
Believe me I will stop running the skin game if all guys want to do is complain about this or that. Nobody is paying me to show up 1.5-2 hours early to sit around yelling out loud every 15 minutes “Skin Game Here” and having the same guys only want to pay me on a daily basis instead of just paying for the whole week up front, because I’ve got nothing better to do every day but sit around before play collecting more money instead of getting my own practice in. Then sitting around for another hour or more after the round tallying up the skins and the best I usually get out of it is a couple guys who thank me and/or buy me a drink. I mainly do it though because I think it benefits the majority to have the game and the best reward is handing the winners there winnings.

Dale Craig- You could not have said it any better. For 40 years now I’ve run some game every week and multiple tournaments every year at the clubs I’ve belonged to. 95% of the golfers thank me in one way or another and 5% continue to complain or ask me to make things more amenable to what they are thinking. Hang in there, brother.

Barbas just needs to add his comments to everything someone posts. Dude is a internet Troll and I guess it gives him happiness. I along with many of you run events at my club including skins and for the guys who are background noise they never step up. If they do they have a greater appreciation for what we do. I’m here to have a great time and hopeful for a chance at a clear. I will now wait for Jeff’s reply…..Don’t be so bitter Cleveland Browns have hope and LeCry James brought your state a championship a couple years ago. RELAX

Jason, it is on page 2 of this post on the Bulletin Board. Posted on August 18th. Let me know if you have any questions.

I ran the skins in my flight for 5 years. And I haven’t seen anyone step up for 3 and 4 yet. On the last day, if you just say any eagles pay first is total B.S. That’s why you have to make rules that are equal for everyone. Any holes that only have two names on them, and that might end up being 3 or 4, those are the guys that get paid if it happens on the last day. Or you could just walk out the door with everyone’s skins money and say you donating it to your charity. That happened by the way on the last day a few years ago. Not a fan of that. This is why you collect score cards from every player just like you would a tournament back home. Everyone turns in a scorecard and you carefully go over every card. Someone doesn’t turn in a card, why? Is he protecting his buddies possible skin? If you want to run it dirty, that’s your business, Jason. I run it the right way. Or you make it easy on everyone and say Everyone throw their name in a hat and pull 4 winners. However you decide, make it right with everyone. And yes, you should have to be present to win on that scenario. Like I would tell the guys, I’m not leaving until there is no money left in this bag.

    Jeff,
That is way I am not a fan of the double money on Thursday. One thing I have learned in my 50+ years and not just in this BUT when there is money involved people will bend the rules and the more money the more rule bending. A lot of people are not are aware that if you are outside the Top 15 in your flight you can play with whomever you like on Thursday. I do appreciate all the volunteers who take the time to do skins.

Todd, isn’t that a terrible statement about people. It isn’t bending it can be stealing. Everyone who is playing is responsible for protecting the field and should do that jealously. If you aren’t interested in fair play you shouldn’t be playing. For as long as I have been playing I have been told that golfers are for the most part honorable. But make no mistake it is everyone’s responsibility so that no one bends the rules for gain. As a sports official I am keenly interested in a fair playing field, where no one has an advantage over anyone else. Anyone who turns their back to allow some one to benefit by cheating should be held accountable.

    Jeff,

To suggest that I would run a “dirty skins pool” is ridiculous. I will have the rules for the skins game posted prior to anyone wanting to enter and play in flight 2. If someone already is handling it that would be fantastic!

All this stuff is why I make it simple if no clear winners on Thursday, draw 5 names from everyone that has taken the time to hang around and divide the money equal ways.just a side note in all the years that I have done the skins I have never not had a winner on Thursday.so to all you skin guys let’s just send someone home a winner

This is my final take on this discussion and in response to Jeff and his viewpoint.
Jeff, I think perhaps your viewpoint comes from the low single digit slant.
I can see where multiple holes can be tied and then trying to decide an equitable disbursement might become more difficult. However, I think the higher the handicaps become the less likely you are to have trouble determining a rightful winner(s). So going to eagles first and then hdcp holes seems to me to make more sense. Finally, I have yet to have to go to that scenario and hopefully never will, but if I do, whoever sticks around on Thursday and is in the running the previous criteria is how I will payout, unless they gave me their number and want to come to me to collect because I am not the UPS guy.
