My issue with both a 9 and a double par max score is that this is primarily a net tournament, not gross. Sure in many cases the players in a given flight are all getting the same number of strokes on a given hole. But that’s not always the case. There are holes were some players are getting a stroke more than their competitors. If they are getting 2 strokes (for instance) and someone else in their flight is getting 1 stroke, the player getting 2 strokes will actually have a lower net score on the hole if they max out under either of those rules.
Most of my groups have gone to max net double bogey or max net triple bogey. I think max net triple for this tournament would seem reasonable. A player getting 2 strokes on a par 5 would max out at 10 (net 8).
Just my two cents. In the end it likely doesn’t alter the winning scores at all so that’s why the powers to be settled on an easier to remember gross score.
Alex GrebelParticipantI totally agree that the Ocean Ridge Cat courses have been simply awful. I live in North Myrtle Beach now and will rarely if ever play a round up there. Not worth it with so many other good courses around.
However to set the record straight something you wrote about the guard house and some other houses there at Ocean Ridge, they had been damaged by a tornado that hit. I believe the guard house and other homes have all been repaired now. But the course conditions have nothing to do with the tornado (unfortunately).
Alex GrebelParticipantMaurice, I can tell you that the ponds are all now full. North Myrtle Beach just experienced up to 8 inches of rain in two days (Friday and Saturday). Of course it could dry out between now and the last week of August, but it just shows it can get wet quickly!
Alex GrebelParticipantHarry,
I like the side pot idea but will leave that up to Dennis since he’s stepped up. As for electronic payments, the biggest problem with it is getting money out of there if you have to make all cash payouts to people that don’t have accounts. I love Venmo and use it often, but I’m not certain it’s a good fit for skins. It would be so perfect if everyone had a Venmo account!
Alex GrebelParticipantTurns out we are in the same foursome on Monday and it’s a late tee time, so you should have no problem seeing everyone before we tee off. I was in here to also volunteer, but you’re good to go it seems. I’m happy to lend a hand if you need it at all.
See you on Monday morning.

Alex GrebelParticipantI’ll guess once they’re released. Lol.
Alex GrebelParticipantAlso it’s official that the Witch will be closing in a few months. They keep flooding that front 9 – it’s a shame because I like that 9 holes especially. So they are going to develop the back 9 (it’s higher elevation) and the clubhouse area. I imagine they will just let the front 9 go natural again or maybe make some parkland down there.
Alex GrebelParticipantChristine, actually Pearl still has 27 holes open. They closed holes 3-11 on the East and made it 9 holes, you jump from #2 to what used to be #12 and is now #3. The old West 18 is now split into the West 9 and the North 9.
Interesting weird fact with the way they did that. If you play the West 9 to the East 9, you will play 8 consecutive holes without a par four. The West finishes with pars 5-3-5, and the East now starts with pars 5-3-3-5-3.
Alex GrebelParticipantI played Panther’s Run in the World Am about 6 years ago and it wasn’t that bad. But I happened to play it again a few weeks ago and I was stunned at the brutal condition. What a shame. My first drive down the middle of the fairway landed in between two clumps of grass what were the size of dinner plates and about 3” high. I was fortunate not to have landed in one of these clumps. Then the 9th fairway was nothing but sand and weeds. Playing out of most of the fairways (where they were “decent”) was like playing out of the first cut or light rough at most normal courses. I was pretty surprised to see the cat courses in the rotation and am thrilled I didn’t draw one. Sorry to those that did.
Alex GrebelParticipantHarry, speaking of wanting courses you never played before… I once drew (in 2015) the exact same four courses that I drew in a previous year (2011). When I mentioned here on the bulletin board they actually went and looked it up with disbelief. It was a total coincidence that they stacked the same four courses together and that I wound up in both flights.
PS – they were TPC, Arrowhead, Carolina National and Possum Trot. So can’t ever get that lineup again with Possum Trot now closed. Whew!
Alex GrebelParticipantMost restaurants are open and are at 50% indoor seating plus any outdoor seating if they have it.
Alex GrebelParticipantNo major work is going on. 31 has now been extended south to a widened 707 which takes you to 17 in Murrels Inlet, so trips down that way are easier than in the past.
Alex GrebelParticipantLouie,
I had the same problem with Possum Trot, but on our course assignment page it gave the rating and slope for our tees so I went with that and manually entered them.
Here’s the link to your assignments: http://worldam.golfnet.com/tourney/player.aspx?f=1496&id=9471
Oyster Bay for you was 67.6/120 and Possum Trot was 66.2/108.
Alex GrebelParticipantQuestion – will there be somewhere in the app to access the scoring in all flights? Right now it appears I can only see my own flight. We have a lot of people here in different flights and loved the older app for scouring how everyone did.
Alex GrebelParticipantAberdeen is OUT! I actually passed Aberdeen on the way in late yesterday and the hole along Route 9 looked like one huge water hazard. That place is flooded out! So I wondered how it will be ready for Tuesday. Then when I opened the app tonight I saw the course assignments – and Tuesday is now Myrtle Beach National – South Creek.
