Unfortunately the WA is oblivious to the comments about courses that are not up to par, to be nice. What can they say but we really don’t care about the course conditions, as this is a business decision to support our courses. Once the WA has your money they can say play or don’t play. They bill themselves as the tournament of all tournaments, the premier tournament with the subpar courses. I accept that they are going to give some flights the shaft, hopefully only on one course. It is truly a shame to pay $600 for a subpar or terrible golf course. But as they say, they will come regardless of the condition of the courses.

True but some will see it. Had a reasonable response last year.

I hated Founders Club the first time I played it, awful condition. So when I saw it in my rotation last year I wasn’t very happy. But I must say that after playing it last year it had made on 360 turnaround. The greens were good and the fairways were also nice. So I wouldn’t mind playing it again.

Good day all WA golfers. I have run the skin game in my flight for the past 25 years. With tee times it is definitely more work to get those who want to play involved. When Flights are published I was thinking that it might be easier for those who desire to play to use Cash App to speed the process. I have a Condo on 70th Ave N just up from the Cain Patch Driving Range. I also have Venmo as an option. I will be in MB on the Thur before to pick up my buddy coming from Vegas. We are playing at Blackmoor on Sunday. my e mail address is DBaker7848@aol.com and my cell number is 757.580.6314. Once Flights are posted I will send out more information. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I was in FL 53 last year and should be close to that this year. David

Good afternoon to all ladies and gentlemen. We are one day closer and I believe that we all are motivated and excited by the course draw. It is after that the excitement is dampened when you see a course that you played last year that was subpar. And yes, we all play the same course, but I don’t think that is a good way to explain away a subpar course. This a premier event, at least marketed that way by the WA. Parallels have been drawn about the business plan that the WA uses, it is a down week and the WA brings people that results in economic benefit to the community. It would seem to me, in my humble opinion, that good course conditions would result in a higher turn out. The first year I played we had 5,000 participants. The sandbagging was so bad that people quit coming, The WA has done a good job of cleaning that up and people are coming back. I think all arguments have merit but in my opinion the WA really doesn’t care about our opinions. We complain but keep coming back. Why is that? Well for me it is the people that I have met over the years. I have made many good friends with people I would never have met, if not for the WA. In that group I consider many of the WA people who are really good people. Jeff Monday and I had many disagreements about things but I consider him a great friend and genuinely good person. Bottom line I like coming to the WA subpar course or not.

Mike, some of what you have put forward is correct. The cost is going up and in some case will drive people to other venues, fact of life. The WA is more than about cost of golf courses. The excitement of winning or tying your flight. I think that most people want to come for the people that they have met and made friends with. I know for me that is true. Heck, I won’t win my flight, maybe a skin, so there is still excitement. Like many I wish the WA would reevaluate and do a better job with the courses. But, has many have said, this is a business decision that has the potential of driving people away as there is competition out there, and until it hurts that will never change. Yes I enjoy the WA but I also enjoy MB. I just don’t eat out as much, cook in a day or two. But we have to make our own fun, not let someone try to spoil it. I hope you get really good courses.

Bob, I think a lot of what you say, in part, is true. This tournament is really held to promote Myrtle Beach, economically, that is obvious, as the WA has a business relationship with the courses. This is a down week, but because of the WA it has brought people to MB, and that translates to dollars. I don’t know for certain, but I believe that the WA has to support courses, good or bad, for business. This is a business for the WA and MB and as such needs to insure that the courses are covered. Is this still a good value? I believe that it is primarily due to the people that play in it and the WA staff that works to make this happen. I have had disagreements with them, but for the most part they are really trying to make this a fun week, and to that point, I agree. Cost, what is not going up? Eventually that may become an issue and drive people away. I guess my 2 cents worth is that I come because of my friends that I have met over the years and look forward to seeing them at the WA. If not for the WA I would not have met some of the greatest people in the world. So THANK YOU WA.

Guys, I have played in the WA since 1997, some have played in many more. Some of the ideas that are advanced here are really good, at this point just not practical to implement. The changes and upgrades sine 1997 make this a true Championship. Prior to 2000, and 5000 entrants, the sand bagging was rampant and unchecked. That is why the numbers dropped down into the 3000 range. I have had disgreements with WA staff, but they listened, agreed or disagreed. I count many on the staff as special friends who do an unbelievable job at putting this Championship on. I agree with Mike 100%. I am sure that they will continue to tweak the Championship to make it better. For now, thank you WA, couldn’t have a btter time, unless I win.
