I remember many years ago when DuPont was the sponsor, we had 7,000+ people in it 1 year! (Early-mid 2000’s?)
I played with a few folks from Australia in consequetive years. One name was Mark McGuire. He and his boss both made a multiple week holiday out of it with their families.
There were 80+ courses used,(some were used only a couple of days and MB area had a 100 courses then),1 flight per course of 100 (+/-) dependent upon handicap breakdown with shotgun starts of course.
I had Carolina National & Wedgefield Plantation in the same year & I stayed at The Breakers so my paperwork had mileage/directions from the CC every year when we registered at The Con. Center on Sunday morning so way before Google Maps.😂
We also used to get a list of every contestant & their addresses/phone numbers in our welcome packets.(I returned a club to a guy in Louisiana after he put his wedge in my bag the last day, the last hole,at Brick Landing!) He was a super nice person
Oh well 30 years goes fast, especially when sponsors gave away condos, new cars/trucks when I started in 1995…then it was a totally different vibe with that big of a sponsor for it.
