Does this year’s tournament have a cap on how many will be allowed to enter?

June 30, 2026 at 10:28 pm #54462Glenn FosterParticipantI remember many years ago when DuPont was the sponsor, we had 7,000+ people in it 1 year! (Early-mid 2000’s?)
I played with a few folks from Australia in consequetive years. One name was Mark McGuire. He and his boss both made a multiple week holiday out of it with their families.
There were 80+ courses used,(some were used only a couple of days and MB area had a 100 courses then),1 flight per course of 100 (+/-) dependent upon handicap breakdown with shotgun starts of course.
I had Carolina National & Wedgefield Plantation in the same year & I stayed at The Breakers so my paperwork had mileage/directions from the CC every year when we registered at The Con. Center on Sunday morning so way before Google Maps.😂
We also used to get a list of every contestant & their addresses/phone numbers in our welcome packets.(I returned a club to a guy in Louisiana after he put his wedge in my bag the last day, the last hole,at Brick Landing!) He was a super nice person
Oh well 30 years goes fast, especially when sponsors gave away condos, new cars/trucks when I started in 1995…then it was a totally different vibe with that big of a sponsor for it.July 1, 2026 at 6:51 am #54463Kirk RobertsParticipantGuess that the culture has changed. Many golfers just prefer to stay home and play than spend a lot of money on lodging and gas. The tournament is still a lot of fun. Unfortunately the cost to play has skyrocketed. Lodging is ridiculous and with the cost of traveling so high families juat stay closer to home. Plus the younger generations don’t find a golf trip as important as years past All the giveaways are nice but the main reason is to play golf on 4 fun courses.

I think the biggest reasons for lack of participation is the cost of travel, coming from another country or even from across this one gets very expensive even for a single player let alone a whole family.
The other thing I think they need to look at are the prizes. Personally as much as I like to see the PGA Superstore sponsorship I would like to see some different options for winners of the prizes. I myself don’t really need a PGA gift card (if lucky enough to win something) I would rather have a prepaid visa card or other options for the gift cards like Home Depot or something along those lines. - AuthorPosts
