A couple of years ago I won the longest drive for my flight but I came about 15-20 yards of hitting it thru the fairway.

It was a long Par 4 and around 250-260 yards the fairway slopped downhill. I ended up with around a 310 yard drive but the fairway ran out around 340. If I was down the middle but thru the fairway, what is the ruling? Am I out of the longest drive contest or can I mark it thru the fairway?

I cannot answer for the Tournament you played rule, but in most cases you have to be in the fairway to qualify for longest drive.

Yeah… that’s normally the rule. So, you could actually hit the longest drive but be penalized if you hit thru the fairway.

In the World Am ball must be in fairway, or so it has been last 38 years

My brother once got “ripped off” in a pre tourney skins game at Crow Creek. Just as you described, right down the middle but a couple yards into the rough of a dividend fairway. Game organizers…..don’t choose such holes for a longest drive competition!
