First timer….going by myself. Is there a preferred place to stay. Prices seem to be the same for most of the beach front locations….or is it best to stay at the convention center where the 19th hole is held?

I’ve played about a dozen times and have always stayed within walking distance to the convention center. Not only do you not have to worry about drinking and driving, but it is centrally located and is a great compromise on driving to the courses (we all get a north course, a central course, and south course and a wildcard). The hotel at the convention center is very convenient if you don’t need access to the beach. Breakers is closest on the beach, affordable, and 10-15 min walk. You won’t be alone, every day at around 5:45 a stream of people walk to the 19th hole. I would say anything between 16th and 27th would be less than 20 min walk.

Sheraton and convenience to 19th hole rocks. Stayed there my first time. But I prefer AirBNB other times. I’ve since stayed near Arrowhead, and this year have scheduled near Myrtlewood. 19th hole is great, but I prefer room at AirBNB and close to pools after the daily round is done. And can Uber to the 19th hole to avoid concerns about that last drink.

    Hi Darcy,

Welcome to the World Am Family!!

I stayed at the convention center my 1st year not knowing a single sole when I left for Myrtle. It’s in the middle of myrtle so going north or south isn’t such a commute. You don’t have to drive to the party every night.

Now I stay with friends I have met at Vrbo or AirBnbs.
I like having more than just a hotel room but lose the connivence of staying where the party is.

    Hi Darcy,
For a first-timer, the Sheraton at the Convention Center would be a good choice. Stayed there a few years back.
LaVeau? I am assuming Cajun name. You a distant relation to the infamous Marie? 🙂

BTW, welcome to the World Am!!!

How you doing these days Rick. I’m trending to being able to bring my A game this year. Got a lesson about a month ago and this lady gave me the final couple things with where my hands should be. Index has dropped 2 full points,HC on my course, down 3. Probably will not get to the 15.2 I which is my low for the year, I will be close to where I can complete.

    Bob, my favorite phrase…I’M ALIVE!!
I’m doing ok. As far as my game is concerned, I am still able to play. Game has been on decline but I still Jace fun in spite of everything. My days of being single digit are in the rear view mirror and are just a distant memory. Seems like I have a doctor’s appointment with a different specialist every other week but I am still able to get myself there and back by myself.
Look forward to seeing you in August

Hi Darcy, I’ve been playing in the World AM 12 or more times and have stayed in a few different places over the years, mostly oceanfront in the early years. Now myself and my golf bud stay in Barefoot Landing for the last 5 years or so. Now we are there for 3 weeks so here was our rational for staying in North Myrtle..
Every year I have caught 2 courses in North Carolina which is a shorter drive, one in central Myrtle and one in south Myrtle. Barefoot is cheaper than Oceanfront condos. Barefoot has (4) beautiful courses which we get the World AM discount rate for the week before the tourney. They also have a nice driving range and Bully’s Pub and restaurant there. Also a nice waterside restaurant. Just outside the Landing are some of the best restaurants in all of Myrtle.
As others have mentioned the Sheraton is a great place to stay to get your feet wet so to speak for a first timer. Note: Monday is brutal at the 19th hole, it is by far and away the busiest night but if you’re staying there it’s great.
My only caution is staying really south near Murrels Inlet, long drives on 3 tournament days, long drives to the Convention Center and sometimes brutal traffic. Stayed there twice and for the tournament and I wouldn’t stay there again, but, would for a regular vacation as the courses there are great!
    So, welcome and enjoy!

1st timer coming in by myself, can someone tell me if Club Wyndham Grand Palms resort in Surfside Beach close to the courses and convention center? Thank you.

    Todd,
Surfside is probably a 15-20 minute ride to the convention center if memory serves correctly.
I stayed down there 2 years ago. Last year was North Myrtle and a different 15 min ride.

Todd, the most Southern course on the rotation is Wedgefield down in Georgetown. I believe the most northern course is probably Rivers Edge in Shallotte, NC. These 2 courses are something like 85 or 90 miles apart. Staying where you plan on staying is something like an 1 hour 15 min drive to Rivers Edge and about a 1 hour drive to Wedgefield.
It really all depends on which courses you draw as to what kind of drive you will have each day. Of course there are a lot of other courses in the rotation you could draw that can be a lot shorter drive.
    Welcome to the World Am.

I believe Lockwood Folly is the most northern course on the rotation this year. It is further than Rivers Edge but they are both very far north.

I see they added a new course in the past weeks. The Links at Bricks Landing. I know nothing about it. Anyone? I love getting courses I have never been and there are not many left for me.

With the hwy 31 connection you can get north or south quickly regardless of where you stay. I stay at 62 n and I don’t remember driving more than an hour either way. Traffic is heavy the last couple years. Brick landing has been on rotation before with non favorable reviews as I remember

Brick Landing is up North in Ocean Isle on the waterway. It was in the rotation many many years ago. Golf course layout is beautiful, bot it has been in very bad shape the past few years. Might be one of the worst courses in this years rotation. Google it for an up to date assessment.
